How quickly has the 2014-15 season come and gone? It seems like only
yesterday that we were speaking with enthusiastic anticipation of our
trip to Barcelona and the year's activities. Further proof if ever we
needed any, that time is truly of the essence, and any day wasted should
be considered an opportunity forever lost!!!
The highlight of DNA's season as always was our trip to the COPA MARESME
in Barcelona. DNA's Coaches and Management decided with our influx of
new students that we should bypass the MIC and get an honest evaluation
of our new players in a challenging but not overly demanding tournament.
Suffice it to say,we were surprised on 2 counts. The first being the
strength and demands of the Copa Maresme was way beyond our initial
assessment, with many high caliber teams involved in an immensely
competitive environment. The second was the superb performances of our
academy, particularly many of our new students who rose to the challenge
and came away with the best results ever achieved by DNA in an European
tournament.
DNA's U11's entered 2 teams in this category and placed 2nd and 3rd,
beating and dominating teams from Spain, Germany, France and England;
eventually losing out in the final to Racing Molenbeek, a Belgian 1st
division team. Our boys played with heart, creativity, passion and a
tactical awareness that truly was a culmination of their hard work over
the course of the season.
Our U13's placed 3rd and created quite a buzz with their attacking,
enterprising play. Our boys kept possession extremely well, moving the
ball from defense to midfield to attack with short, crisp passes that
left their opponents dizzy. All the players played their part but
special mention must be made of Hussein 'Messi' Ezzeddine who attracted
the attention and interests of more than a few German and Spanish
scouts.
Our U15's had their best tournament in Europe by a mile, dominating
possession in all of their games in a truly competitive age group. The
quality of the passing, movement and goals was an apt testament to the
extensive preparations that DNA's U15's went through beforehand. Our
inability to kill off games proved to be our downfall as this twice
allowed the Germans teams to score in the dying minutes and send us out
of the tournament.
DNA's U9's participated in the Dubai Super Cup in the U10's age group.
This proved to be extremely challenging on a lot of levels, notably the
physicality that our boys faced. After a period of adaptation, our boys
acquitted themselves in admirable fashion, and went on to record some
positive results, eventually finishing in 5th place. It is noteworthy
that this same team can compete in the U10 category again next year. We
all look forward to that eventuality!!!
No doubt, upon our return to Lebanese competition, all our teams were
dominant, both in terms of possession and results. Proof positive was
the fact that our teams across the board won 90% of their matches played
against any and all opposition. Our U15's who had lost to Lebanese
champions Al Ansar 4-0 prior to the Barcelona trip, completely dominated
and prevailed 3-2 vs the same opponents upon our return.
As we transition now into the summer season, our players are relishing
the training 3 times weekly during the Ramadan month. We then begin our
summer camps immediately after Ramadan, when we will train 5 times
weekly, with weekends free to spend with the family.
The football culture within DNA has significantly improved, and this has
impacted everything in most positive sense. Our boys are more
conscientious of their nutritional needs, rest and recovery. Even our
parents have bought into the culture and this bodes well for our future
endeavors.
